This research aims to investigate the role of research and development (R&D) management in creating innovative solutions to counter artificial intelligence (AI) threats in the field of combat engineering. Given the increasing proliferation of intelligent technologies in military domains, combat engineering forces face complex and multi-layered threats, including the design of smart mines, autonomous robots, satellite data analysis for identifying military fortifications, and infiltration of intelligent heavy equipment systems. Employing a qualitative approach with a meta-synthesis and directed content analysis method, this research analyzed data collected from semi-structured interviews with experts using MAXQDA software. The results of conceptual coding and data analysis indicate that R&D management can play an effective role in reducing vulnerability and increasing the resilience of engineering forces by designing intelligent engineering systems, enhancing cybersecurity, developing robust algorithms, utilizing intelligent systems for rapid identification and response, and purposefully countering cognitive warfare. The research findings suggest that effectively confronting modern threats requires institutionalizing technological capabilities within the military R&D structure and adopting an integrated approach encompassing technical, intelligence, and managerial expertise.
